Update #3

Crisis averted. Joah has been a feisty, loud bugger. I am sure the campers around us can't wait for us to leave. He screeches at the top of his lungs when something doesn't go according to his plan. Which seems like every two minutes. He at least has been sleeping half way decent this trip. For that we are all thankful.

Anyway, we left the falls and decided to take a different route back because the way up there was a little boring after a while. The other route was a bit longer, but it wasn't through a national forest, so there were more homes, businesses, and meadows to see. We took M 123 through Newberry, MI, to M117 though Engadine, to US 2 along the northern edge of Lake Michigan. The lake views were spectacular.

We drove through Hog Island Campground just to check it out. It was very wooded and very rustic. I don't think we will be staying there. I think the bugginess would drive me totally bonkers. It did have nice spots right near the lake, though. For those who are the outdoorsy types who like to "ruff" it a little more, it would be a great place to camp.

Then we moved on down US 2 and stopped at the Cut River Bridge. Wow, it was amazing. The pictures I took I am sure don't do it justice. It was a startling panorama of earth and sky. We took the steps (231 I might add) down to the beach below. It was like we found a secluded hide-away on Lake Michigan with our very own private beach. The boys wore their suits and went swimming in the lake. The beach was rocky at first, but we moved down the beach and found a place to swim that had a firm sandy bottom.

It was so nice and peaceful there. We found a stream that flowed into the lake and the water was so cold it made my feet hurt standing in it. The boys had a great time swimming and playing in the sand. They also went rock hunting and threw many, many rocks into the lake. After a while, we decided to get going and we, of course, had to climb back up the gorge to the car. It took us all a while, but we made it.

From there we went back to the camp site since it was getting late and we still wanted to have a bon fire for a while. Joah screamed the whole way back and made the rest of the drive such a joy. We got back and got the fire going and had s'mores and popcorn. Caleb only eats plain marshmallows, though. And chocolate, of course.

Today it is raining, so I am not sure what we will end up doing. We had hoped to go to The Cross in the Woods and Mill Creek, but we will have to wait and see how the weather shapes up. If it is rainy, then we could end up in Cheboygan, MI, at the movie theater. The boys want to see Ratatouille. They have a super WalMart there, too. We need some more cups and paper plates. Also, Lee forgot his deoderant and needs to buy some. Yes, that's right, we are going on three days of no deoderant for Lee.

That is about all the updates I have for now. Gotta get some bored boys dressed and ready for the day. Have a good day!
